To all:
In the Legend of Ra and Isis (Budge translation), Neb-er-tcher states, "I have made Meht-ur to come into being; I have made the Bull of his Mother." I've been trying to find additional information on Meht-ur, but so far no luck. If anyone has any sources, I would appreciate getting citations.
Thanks,
Lune

Thanks, Joerg,
For kindly sending me the link. I'd found Budge's book at the Gutenberg Project, but the version at your link is much more readable. For the past several days, I have in fact been reading through LEGENDS OF THE GODS, but it's been tough sledding for me, partly because I'm taking copious notes but mainly because I still know so little of ancient Egyptian mythology. Budge's book, though, is immensely helpful, because it gives translations of the actual texts, not just epitomes of them. Of course, Budge was a late Victorian English scholar, and I'm sure that his translations incorporate his biases (terms like "heaven," "fiends," "vicar," and so on), but I hope that with a little perseverance I can get at least a good layman's understanding of the mythology.
I read through the passage at your link, but it didn't mention Meht-ur; it mainly discussed Neb-er-tcher and the creation account. I know that sometimes (often times?) Egyptian deities take many forms. Is Meht-ur a manifestation of Neb-er-tcher?
I really wouldn't bother you and others with these basic questions, but I can't find anything really about Meht-ur on the web, and unfortunately I don't live near a good metropolitan or university library to help with research.
Best,
Lune

Hi Joerg,

Today I had more time to really study this webpage, and I did in fact find exactly the information that I was looking for, partly on this page and partly through the references available on the page. I really should have taken the time to study the page more closely before I posted my first response above. At any rate, I want to thank you again for bringing this website to my attention.
And boy, was I way off about Meht-ur.
Cheers,
Lune
